BVI Charter Day 4: Virgin Gorda

We wanted to spend a little more time at Cane Garden Bay to shop, grab some water jugs and fruit and so that G and V could get their hair braided. Within two hours we were back on the boat and motoring east. I had reserved a mooring at Marina Cay that morning but decided to carry on to Virgin Gorda’s north sound. Thankfully Boatyball let’s you cancel a reservation for no charge if you rebook one for the same day and I got lucky finding an unclaimed ball at Leverick Bay. It was a nice 2.5 hour ride. We couldn’t sail because we were going directly into the wind so we motored all the way. Still it was a great ride and we enjoyed the views from the flybridge. We passed through Great Camanoe, south of Marina Cay and the Dog Islands and made our way into Leverick Bay.

We made our best mooring grab and prepped our drybags for a full day’s adventure. Leverick Bay is at the southern most part of the north sound and our plan was to make our way north the the Sandbox on Prickly Pear Island. To our disappointment it was closed. Not sure if the reasoning was because it was Sunday or just out of business but from my previous research it appeared to be well up and operating. We took a quick dip in the water to cool off before heading over to Saba Rack for happy hour and watching the daily 5pm fish feeding.

Saba Rock did not disappoint. The happy hour upper deck had a great vibe with awesome DJ tunes, tasty drinks, pool table and an island chic atmosphere. At 5:00pm every afternoon, the staff feeds the tarpon off the dock and it draws a crowd. It’s fun to watch these huge fish fight over the bait. We had one last stop to make at the Bitter End Yacht Club, which is a short dinghy ride from Saba Rock. The BEYC has an amazing setup directly on the beach with a swim area, beach games, a beach bar shaped like a boat and a variety of restaurants on site. We chose to eat at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere as the sun set. The ride back to the boat was longer than usual because we did a lot of exploring during the day, but it was fun and we settled in for the night knowing we had one full day left on our vacation.
